Southerners overwhelmingly supported the election of Donald Trump to the office of the Presidency of the United States, mainly because of his campaign promises and seemingly sincere notice of “fly-over” country. It’s no surprise then that the reigning liberal establishment (neo-Con and leftist alike) actively mocks Southerners as uncultured hicks and simpletons. CNN is the most recent party to display its bias, and this in a most denigrating way:
DON LEMON: [The NPR reporter] has a master’s degree in European studies from Cambridge University. Also, [Pompeo] doesn’t really say that she couldn’t identify Ukraine on a map, he insinuates it’s just a — it’s just a petty attempt to put her down, right? Is that what this is?
RICK WILSON: Of course, of course. [Pompeo’s] just trying to demean her, and obviously, it’s false. And, look, he also knows, deep in his heart, that Donald Trump couldn’t find Ukraine on a map if you had the letter “U” and a picture of an actual physical crane next to it. [Pompeo] knows this is an administration defined by ignorance of the world, and so that’s partly him playing to their base and playing to their audience, you know, the credulous boomer rube demo that backs Donald Trump — that wants to think that [does Trump supporter impersonation with southern accent] ‘Donald Trump’s the smart one, and y’all – y’all elitists are dumb!’”
WAJAHAT ALI: [Trump supporter impersonation] You elitists with your geography and your maps and your spelling!
WILSON: [[S]outhern impersonation] Your math and your reading!
ALI: [impersonation] Yeah, your reading, you know, your geography, knowing other countries, sipping your latte!
WILSON: [[S]outhern impersonation] All those lines on the map!
ALI: [impersonation] Only them elitists know where Ukraine is! Sorry, I apologize.
LEMON: [wiping tears, laughing] Oh, my God!
ALI: But it was Rick’s fault. I blame Rick. But, in all honesty —
LEMON: Hold on — hold on — hold on. That was good, sorry. Rick, that was a good one — I needed that.
Note that these are the purported gatekeepers of both diversity and journalistic integrity. They readily cast aside such masques when the moment to denigrate arises, as the one-minute rant shows. Trump may have served as an excuse for these champagne socialists to voice their disdain for the South and her people, but his successful election was not the sole reason for this hate. In truth, anyone offering a more traditional path for modern-day America is seen as a threat and ridiculed. CNN’s Don Lemon has himself repeatedly attacked the South and her identity, painting it as a target for progressive destruction.
It should be further noted that Don Lemon has been an outspoken advocate of the #MeToo movement, giving on-air support and coverage to the cause, except where the allegations are made against Don Lemon. But hypocrisy is as hypocrisy does.
Two wealthy minorities and one white liberal hack, all who earn more in a year than most Southerners no doubt do in a decade, were on cable tv mocking Southerners for the South’s lack of education at best (or quality of culture at worst).
What a perfect way to kick off the new decade.
Welcome to the New America.
