….And not some 3rd world country. Though you would be justified in believing that.
It all happened yesterday, after Darren Wilson was acquitted of charges for shooting an 18-year old black youth after he had just robbed a convenience store. The media was quick to jump to the scene, and black solidarity was proclaimed against the Ferguson Police. Now, however, a jury simply stated that there is no evidence to indict Officer Wilson on any of the five charges laid against him.
As expected, the Ferguson mob wouldn’t let a good opportunity go to waste. Ben Kesling of the Wall Street Journal noted that
“Peaceful protests…quickly gave way to looting and arson.”
One CBS news anchor even seemed to fear for his life while covering the mob, er, “protestors for justice.”
Chief of Police Jon Belmar gave a grim picture: “I’ll be honest with you: Unless we bring 10,000 policemen in here, I don’t think we can prevent folks who really are intent on destroying a community.” To some degree, it reminds one of the 1963 Birmingham Riot.
In his masterful book, Orthodoxy, G.K. Chesterton answers those who empathize with the Looters of Ferguson. In the chapter Romance of Orthodoxy he states simply that “evil is a matter of active choice.” These people aren’t poor souls needing comfort. They’re a mob bent on evil and destruction.
The entire city is at stake.
This section of Missouri has become a cesspool looked down on by not only the rest of the South, but the world as well. The sad thing is that it’s due to outsiders and the lowest level of persons living there interfering in what was a cut-and-dried case. Thank the Lord for our system, eh?
